The martini is recognized as the king of the cocktail world thanks to its mysterious evolution and its appearance in many glamour movies. No one really knows the martini’s exact origins, but the most probable theory is that this cocktail was created between the end of 1800 and the beginning of the 1900 as the Martinez — a mixture of sweet vermouth, a smaller part of gin, and a drop of bitters. Over the years the cocktail evolved along with the palette of its consumers. Eventually it transformed to a larger part of dry gin mixed with a small part of dry vermouth. Then of course, there are the countless variations where the gin is replaced with vodka or there is an increase and decrease in the dry vermouth. With all its variations, the martini is one of the world’s most popular cocktails.
