The irresistible combination of Chocolate and Mint made this a must cocktail! Especially for those who lived the ’80s and the ’90s when the Grasshopper reached its golden years.
Nonetheless this cocktail was born way earlier, in 1919, in one of the oldest restaurants in New Orleans: Tujague’s, a Creole restaurant of the French Quarter. The cocktail was created by Philibert Guichet, who worked in the family’s restaurant as a bartender, to be presented it in a prestigious cocktail competition in New York in 1919 where he won the second prize for it. Once back in New Orleans, the Grasshopper was added to the Tujague’s menu.
